From The Pastor's Desk: April 2017

Posted on May 11, 2017 at 11:10 AM
On April 23, we will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of the West Side Brethren in Christ Church. This special occasion will be a testimony to the faithfulness of God to us. There will be one morning service at 10 AM with a number of special features concluding with a fellowship meal. Bishop Rob Patterson will be our guest speaker. West Side was begun as a church plant supported by five local Brethren in Christ churches. Rev Ed Rickman was the founding pastor. He helped assemble the initial group, choose the location, and facilitate the construction of the first building. He resigned about a year after dedicating the building. Charles and Ruth Lehman next came and pastored the fledgling congregation for 13 years. They helped stabilize the church and get it out of debt. They retired in 2001 and Deb and I came in July of that year to begin our tenure here. Through the years God has been faithful in both the challenges and the blessings. Our theme on April 23 is "Find us Faithful." We who have been the recipients of God's blessing are called to demonstrate faithfulness to those who come behind us. May we dedicate our lives to that endeavor. One way we want to do that is with a special missions project offering that day. Our goal is to raise $10,000 to help upgrade hostels, which serve children, in India and Nepal. In thanksgiving to God, please do your best to support this cause. Just mark your envelope "Hostels." In the evening of April 23, the Cumberland Valley Christian Choir will be presenting a concert at West Side. These concerts are well attended so plan to be here early. Invite your family and friends to join us for this celebration. This is a great opportunity to invite those who formerly attended West Side. Let's rejoice together in the faithfulness of God. May Jesus Christ be praised! Pastor Jim
